Delta Air Lines Lets Travelers Check-In For Flights Through Facebook
Delta Air Lines has added extra features to its Facebook Page, meaning that travelers can now check-in for their flights directly from within the social network.
By accessing the Ticket Counter app, customers will be able to check-in for their flights, view how many SkyMiles they have and print their boarding pass directly from the app. You will also be able to check the status of your flight from the app so if it has been delayed, you can keep a Facebook Chat tab open with your friends while keeping an eye out to see when the boarding process will begin.
If you like to share your travel plans with your friends, you can also share your flight plans or trip itineraries over Facebook. A nice way to brag about where in the world you are headed to next, if you are so inclined.
Given that Delta previously allowed users to book trips from within Facebook, it makes sense that they would allow travelers to check-in when it gets closer to the date of the flight. It seems a bit odd to me that the check-in features would not have been included in the initial version of the app, but I’m glad to see it is there now.
It is just the latest instance of airlines embracing social media in order to create closer relationships with customers. Earlier this month, Delta added a customer service app to its Facebook Page, where travelers could provide feedback to the airline. American Airlines has also gotten in on the act, by allowing travelers to share tips on how to boost AAdvantage miles on Facebook and Twitter and offering up to 100,000 free miles for liking its Facebook Page.
