Class Is In Session: YouTube Creator Institute Invites Users to Live-streamed Classes With Media Greats

YouTube launched YouTube Creator Institute with the help of USC School of Cinematic Arts and Columbia College Chicago. The initiative was created to help aspiring video artists from all walks of life to improve the quality of the videos they upload to YouTube.

Both USC School of Cinematic Arts and Columbia College Chicago are hosting classes this summer and YouTube is inviting everyone to join in on lectures that will feature some of the most successful directors, producers, comedians, musicians and industry leaders. Users will be able to participate in lectures from amazing people like “Twilight Saga” writer and producer Melissa Rosenberg to the director of “Terminator Salvation” McG.

The list of guest speakers are as follows and you are always welcome to submit your questions for the live-streamed classes:

  • May 25: Jon Landau, Academy Award-winning producer of “Avatar” and “Titanic”
  • May 31: Melissa Rosenberg, acclaimed writer and producer of the “Twilight Saga,” “Dexter” and many others
  • June 1: SuzAnn Brantner, Head of Alternative Distribution and Marketing for Music, Film and Books at William Morris Endeavor
  • June 2: MysteryGuitarMan and FreddieW, YouTube Partners with millions of subscribers and views
  • June 14: McG, director of “Terminator Salvation” and “Charlie’s Angels,” and executive producer of “Supernatural,” “The OC” and many other
  • July 7: Barely Political, one of YouTube’s most subscribed channels and creators of Obama Girl, Key of Awesome and Autotune the News

YouTube is kicking off their live-stream sessions Wednesday night with a lecture by Oscar winning producer of “Avatar” and “Titanic” Jon Landau. You can submit your questions to Landau now and catch the live-streamed lecture at 7 p.m. PDT.

This isn’t the first initiative YouTube has taken to nurture its budding video artists. The video-sharing service launched NextUp, a contest where the YouTube community selected the 25 most talented YouTube Partners. Those 25 were awarded $35,000 and an invitation to the 4-day YouTube Creator Camp.

YouTube has never failed to impress me with how much the company gets involved with their users, providing independent artists with not only the resources to showcase their talents, but also helping those users grow and improve their work.
