INFOGRAPHIC: Amazing Twitter Facts And Figures
Since its start in 2006, Twitter has become one of the most popular social networks with around 170 million tweets being sent per day and it’s expanding. In 2008 the company had just 8 employees and now has 400 with no signs of slowing down any time soon.
It’s come a long way and this infographic created by Infographics Archive shows some of the most interesting stats the microblogging service has come across in its existence. To grasp how fast people are adopting the service, here’s a neat fact: it took 3 years, 2 months and 1 day for Twitter to reach its billionth tweet, but now users tweet 1 billion times every week.
We already know that a lot of people are tweeting, but what are they tweeting about? According to the infographic, 40.1 percent of tweets are “pointless babble.” Judging by how many tweets I send about what I’m eating, thinking, feeling and watching on TV, I completely believe it. What counts as important, intelligent comments anyway? Most of the other tweets that aren’t pointless babble are conversational (37.6 percent) and believe it or not, there are more spam tweets than there are tweets about news!
The infographic also lists some interesting facts about Twitter use. For example, the first off-earth tweet was sent on January 22, 2010 from the International Space Station by T.J. Creamer, a NASA astronaut.
