Kenton Cool Unboxes Samsung Galaxy S II, Sends First Tweet Ever From Top Of Mt. Everest
Twitter history was made May 6, 2011 when British mountain climber Kenton Cool sent the first tweet ever from the top of Mt. Everest. The tweet was made possible by a 3G antennae placed in the vicinity of Mt. Everest in Nepal in 2010 and the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. This marked Cool’s ninth trek up Mt. Everest.
Cool unboxed the phone and turned it on right away – claiming that it’s the only smartphone he trusts to work. He also jokes about putting the phone down his pants to keep the battery warm while braving the freezing elements.
Cool tweeted Aston Kutcher, “@aplusk gonnasend the 1st tweet from the top of everest, no punking involved, not that high up anyway! will tweet u frm the top.” He also tweeted Charlie Sheen, “@charliesheen gonna send the 1st tweet from top of everest.#tigerblood, sweat & tears. want a #winning message from the top?” all before climbing up the mountain – perhaps in hopes of getting more publicity for the event. At the time of this writing, neither celebrity replied to Cool’s tweet.
It’s incredible that Cool was able to tweet from the top of Mt. Everest, meanwhile I can’t get my 3G service to work from my friend’s Manhattan apartment.
