INFOGRAPHIC: Do You Think Twitter Is Really A Waste Of Time?

How many of you have a Twitter account? I certainly do. In fact, I’m such an avid user that I tweet from not one, but 2 different apps depending on my specific needs for the tweet. I’m extremely well versed in 140 character quips and would advocate for anyone to join the site, but when my sister snidely remarked, “Isn’t Twitter kind of a waste of time?” it had me thinking. How could she possibly say that about my beloved social network?

According to an infographic by ProBlogger, there is a valid reason behind why some people don’t see the benefits of Twitter. With 200 million users, it’s certainly no Facebook (Facebook has way more than double Twitter’s user base) but it’s still a significant number, so why is it a waste? Well, a fourth of Twitter users have no followers and quickly abandon the site after they realize they are talking to nobody. Only 20 percent of users have more than 11 followers and only 5 percent have more than 50 followers, whereas on Facebook, the average user is connected to 130 people. Apparently most content is created by only 20 percent of the Twitter population and 40 percent of users don’t post anything at all. Out of all the things that are posted, 45 percent of it is considered nonsense.

Twitter isn’t bad though and certainly not a waste of time if you use it to its fullest potential. It’s a highly useful tool in self promotion, connecting to friends and just keeping a short log of your thoughts and life in general. It helps you discover video and news, learn about products and promote your own. That’s definitely something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
