Facebook Stalker Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison For Hacking Into Email, Sending Nude Photos Of Victims
A 24-year-old man from California has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for stalking women on Facebook in order to find clues that would help him hack into their email accounts. Once the stalker gained access to their email, he would search their folders for nude pictures that they had sent and forward them to their friends, family and co-workers.
In January, George Bronk plead guilty to false impersonation, computer intrusion and possession of child pornography, among other charges. Despite his evaluation by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation which showed him to be a remorseful alcoholic, prosecutors were concerned that Bronk showed a “high degree of callousness.”
Bronk began to hack into women’s emails in December of 2009 while he was taking care of his sick parents. It wasn’t until September of 2010 that he was discovered. After Bronk broke into the accounts, he would taunt his victims and even convinced some of them to send him more explicit photos.
Despite the victims’ strong passwords, their social networking profiles made their security questions easy to discover, allowing Bronk to hack into their email accounts. Questions like “What high school did you go to?” or “What is the name of your pet?” are easy to figure out if your profile is completely visible to the public.
Bronk is said to have victimized women from 17 different states.
