INFOGRAPHIC: How Phishing Attacks Hook Social Networking Users

Here at Scribbal, we try to keep you informed when a scam is spreading through social networking services. Most of these scams emerge on Facebook and often attempt to trick you into handing over your personal information in a phishing attack. This information could then be used against you and put you at risk for identity theft.

ZoneAlarm has published a new infographic that outlines common ways in which scammers grab your attention and make you think that you are inputting your login credentials into a legitimate website.

Around 1 percent of Facebook users are thought to have been affected by such scams — that’s 5 million users (or 7.5 million, going by the fact that Facebook has more than 750 million monthly active users). The most targeted industries for phishing attacks are, unsurprisingly, payment services and the financial industry. The infographic also offers some tips on what to do to avoid phishing attacks in social media.
