Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the social network has reached 750 million monthly active users. Zuckerberg confirmed the news on Wednesday at Facebook headquarters during an event to announce the launch of the Skype video calling feature on the social network.

We reported last month that Facebook had 750 million active monthly users. Zuckerberg says that Facebook decided not to reveal that the company had reached the milestone because it does not think that active users is the best metric to determine user engagement — Facebook considers how users are sharing information to be a more important metric, for instance.

The company has updated its statistics page to reflect the milestone, adding that more than 50 percent of active users log in to Facebook on any given day — that means more than 375 million people are on Facebook every day.

At Wednesday’s Facebook event, Zuckerberg added that he hoped Facebook would get to a billion users at some point.
