Facebook Changes Navigation Bar, Locks In Place While Scrolling
Facebook constantly gets backlash for its redesigns, but sometimes the smallest change can be an improvement.
If you logged into Facebook on Thursday night, you might have noticed that the top navigation bar is fixed at the top of the browser window even when you scroll down, giving you access to friend requests, messages, notifications and the search bar at all times. It’s unclear if this change has been rolled out across the entire social network all at once or if it’s being rolled out in stages.
Inside Facebook first noticed this subtle improvement which pays homage to the designs of Twitter and Google+ who have their navigation bar fixed at the top of the browser window as well. For anyone who’s ever tried to catch up on News Feed updates and found themselves pages below the navigation bar when they received a notification, this is a welcome change. No more losing your place to find out you only got invited to an event you really don’t want to attend anyway.

The social network also rolled out a subtle change in their games section. When playing certain games like FarmVille or CityVille, the games ticker, which launched in August, now stays fixed on the right side of the page with the advertisements. Perhaps Facebook is hoping to keep ads front and center to increase the chance that users will click.
The fixed navigation bar and games ticker are subtle changes, but they could be hints that Facebook is planning a larger redesign. In June, the social network tested out a homepage redesign where the News Feed scrolled separately from the rest of the page.

My bar was locked yesterday, but today it is not. I’m sad..
