Miso Adds DirecTV Integration, Syncs Episode You Are Watching To App

Social TV app Miso has teamed up with DirecTV to offer an easier way to share what you are watching with your friends. The Miso app can now be synced with your DirecTV receiver to allow real-time social features that change based on what you are viewing.

Once you have connected your iPhone and DirecTV receiver to the same Wi-Fi network, the app will show you what you are watching on TV and will change this information if you switch channels. This means that you will not have to manually search for the show or episode you are watching, which will make sharing that information with your social networking contacts a much more streamlined and faster experience.

Here is a video that explains how it all works:

“Our partnership with DIRECTV is a big step toward delivering a truly connected home experience because, for the first time ever, a social TV app will enable viewers to easily share what they’re watching, as they’re watching it,” said Somrat Niyogi, CEO of Miso. “DIRECTV is a leader in providing innovative entertainment and we’re excited to be working with them to deliver this industry first. This is just the first of many new partnerships we’ll announce in the coming months.”

It’s a fascinating little feature that could bring a greater level of interactivity to the TV watching experience and could boost usage of Miso, which added a Shout! feature to its iPhone app in June, if the app is promoted on the DirecTV platform. It could also help Miso compete with similar services such as GetGlue and IntoNow, which was acquired by Yahoo earlier this year.
