Twitter Lets ‘The X Factor’ Fans Vote For Contestants Using Direct Messages

If you’re a fan of “The X Factor,” you’ll soon able to vote for your favorite singer by sending a Direct Message on Twitter. The social network revealed that, starting next week, you’ll be able to send a DM to @TheXFactorUSA to vote for your preferred singer.

DMs are being used in order to maintain privacy when submitting your vote. No public tweets will be included in the vote tally and all votes will be sent directly to “The X Factor” to be included in the official tally.

A dedicated website has been set up to let you place your vote using your Twitter account more easily. The site will also contain tweets from judges, contestants and fans. While you’re waiting for the voting to begin, you can interact with other fans of the show on Twitter by using the #XFactor hashtag.

Twitter has long been a medium to bring fans and the talent behind TV shows closer together. For instance, CBS held a Tweet Week earlier this year in which the stars of some of its biggest shows tweeted as their respective shows were airing. The social network offers fans the chance to directly engage with some of their favorite stars, but offering users the chance to vote on a reality show using DMs is a rather novel idea and perhaps we’ll start to see similar practices being established for other shows in the future.
