President Obama Answers Questions In Live Twitter Townhall, Tweet With #AskObama To Participate

Barack Obama has utilized social media to connect with young voters since his first presidential campaign. In April, Obama began his campaign for re-election and focused heavily on Facebook promotion. He launched the “Are You In?” campaign on the social network which encouraged users to log in to support Obama and then invite their friends. He also held a Townhall meeting that was live streamed via Facebook. This time Obama, who recently told his followers he will be tweeting personally, has turned to Twitter to host his next Townhall.

On July 6 at 2 p.m. EDT and 11 p.m EDT, Twitter will live stream a Townhall meeting from the White House on the Ask Obama page. All Twitter users are invited to participate, so if you have questions you want to ask the president, now’s your chance. However, not all of the questions can be answered and the Townhall has a specific objective — Obama will only be answering questions about the economy and jobs.

BREAKING: 1st Twitter @ w/ Pres Obama at the WH on 7/6 @ 2ET. #AskObama your Qs on the economy & jobs: http://t.co/Uk04H97

If you’re wondering how Obama is planning to open up more jobs or fix some of our deficit, all you have to do is tweet using the hashtag #AskObama for a chance for your question to be answered.

Twitter has also set up a @townhall account to give users important updates about the Townhall and a reminder the day before so none of us miss the event.

Currently Obama has an enormous following on Twitter. At the time of this writing he has almost 9 million followers — and I wouldn’t be surprised if his numbers grew even more with his continued use of the social network. He’s already so close to joining the ranks of stars like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga who are some of the most followed celebrities on the social network.

So, will you be attending this virtual Townhall? What do you want to ask President Obama?

I resent the implication that Twitter is only for young people. I am 72 and I expect to participate. Some people think senior citizens don’t know how to use cell phones either. Tired of the insults here in Granville, PA!
