2 Reporters Engage In Twitter Fight Over Michael Vick Injury, Gets Physical, Receives Animated Treatment

The latest in sports-related Twitter fights isn’t among athletes over-stepping their bounds, it’s between 2 Philadelphia sports reporters and it actually gets physical.

The argument began when Jeff McLane tweeted about how Michael Vick was likely starting on Sunday after he was injured in last Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. He linked to an in-depth blog post where he quoted various sources saying that Vick’s hand wasn’t broken and that he could play as soon as the swelling went down. However, his colleague at the Philadelphia Media Network, Les Bowen, severely disagreed.

Bowen believed that it’s impossible to know whether or not Vick could play at this stage in his injury but that people are staying hopeful. He tweeted:

Oh, and BTW, nobody has any idea on Tuesday whether Michael Vick is starting this week. It was obvious Monday Andy thinks/hopes he will.

McLane was not pleased. Crossing Broad reports that he immediately fired back with 3 biting tweets, which he later deleted. He said:

“@LesBowen Right. I made it up. How about if Vick starts Sunday you have to say on Daily News Live, ‘I’m an old hack that hasn’t broken a…”

“…story in years, needs my editor to keep my blog fresh, and missed Vick on Monday because I was cluelessly tapping away on my…”

“…computer and had to steal quotes from hard-working reporters who have a clue.’ If Vick doesn’t start I’ll eat my pencil. Sound good?”

Bowen took the high road and didn’t respond to McLane’s tweets — or so we thought until he and McLane went on WIP, Philadelphia’s sports radio station, shortly after the tweets were posted. McLane and Bowen allegedly started arguing in the press room and Bowen threw a punch at McLane’s head.

Though the argument was short lived, it was certainly dramatic enough for Next Media Animation to create a video on exactly what went down. Check it out below.
