GetGlue Rolls Out Redesigned iPhone App, Adds Real-time Conversations And Other New Features

Coming off of some major wins, GetGlue has announced a big update for both the website and iPhone app. The entertainment check-in service recently celebrated reaching 1.5 million users and a 130 percent rise in check-ins. The updates include a bunch of new features and a redesigned interface.

GetGlue, which recently launched a dashboard to help TV networks connect with fans, focused this update on helping users connect with each other. Between the check-ins and tweets, there was no distinctive place to read engaging conversations about your favorite shows. The service has added a new feature called “Interesting Conversations” to remedy this issue. Interesting Conversations is a real-time stream of check-ins and tweets that’s available on the website, iPhone app and through GetGlue’s API.

GetGlue’s goal was to create a much more compact and relevant stream, which they achieved. Once you check in, you are automatically directed to the conversation screen which shows recent check-ins from friends and interesting check-ins and tweets from everyone who is watching the TV show. This is where real-time information really shines. For example, if you’re watching Real Housewives of New Jersey and something crazy happens (let’s be honest, that’s every episode) you’ll be able to see which side users are taking and what they think about the event as it’s happening. It adds a whole new element to watching television.

In addition to the Interesting Conversations feature, GetGlue has added a Friend Leaderboard. The leaderboard allows you to see a list of the top 10 friends around any sort of TV show, movie, artist, book or topic. It’s easily accessed through each check-in response screen and in the details page for each show, movie or any other kind of entertainment. On the website, the leaderboard will be displayed on the sidebar for each specific movie, TV show, ect.

GetGlue didn’t just add 2 new features, they redesigned the entire iPhone app. The design is crisp, streamlined and much easier to use. Personal stats, stickers, specials and trending information are now available on every check-in, allowing users to instantly see their achievements. Unfortunately for Android users, the Android app hasn’t received these particular updates, but hopefully it will follow suit.
