Spotify Tests Facebook Sign-in And Sharing On Android App

Spotify has announced details of the latest beta version of its Android app that is now being tested. The app preview adds a Facebook sign-in option along with the ability to share what you are listening to on the social network through the new ticker.

As with the desktop version of Spotify, you will be able to activate a private listening mode so you can hide your listening habits if you don’t want your Facebook friends to know what you are listening to. This can be activated from the settings menu.

If you do not already have a Spotify account, you will be able to sign up to the music streaming service from the app using your Facebook account. When Spotify became publicly available (i.e., when it removed the need for you to have an invite before you could join the service), it enabled Facebook-only sign-up, meaning that you would need to connect your account on the social network to Spotify in order to start using the music streaming service.

Spotify usage soared after it was revealed at the f8 conference that it was one of the launch partners for Facebook’s music dashboard. The company recently announced partnerships with Boxee and Western Digital to let you stream songs from Spotify through your TV.

Getting access to the latest preview version of Spotify with these new features is a little more complicated than simply downloading the app from Android Market. First, you’ll have to set your Android device to allow installation from unknown sources from the “Unknown sources” menu under the applications section of your device’s settings menu. Once you have done that, you can simply download the app directly onto your device.
